It is a lifetime experience of biking to the forbidden mystical kingdom of Mustang known as Lo-Manthang a 500-year-old capital city located in the heartland of Nepal alongside the border to Tibet, China. Mustang opened its door to foreign travelers in 1992, and it has been heaven for adventure seekers exploring trekking, mountain climbing and recently biking and jeep driving. This trip will provide you with ample opportunity to witness rugged barren mountains, deep canyons, eroded cliffs, Moraine valleys, snow-capped peaks, and more.
The 16-day Mountain bike ENDURO tour is a fully supported trip into one of the most beautiful and remote parts of the world. With a mix of flowy single tracks, fun double tracks, steep and loose technical switchbacks, suspension bridges, and a few exposed sections here and there, Mustang trails provide a thrilling time hammering down the hills!

For your own personal health; it is strongly recommended that travelers are covered against the following diseases; Poliomyelitis (childhood booster), Tetanus (childhood booster), Typhoid (food and water-borne disease), and Hepatitis A (food and water-borne disease). For those undertaking a longer more rural trip to Nepal, other vaccinations may need to be considered including Hepatitis B, Rabies, Japanese B, and Meningitis. There are seasonal outbreaks of dengue fever / Malaria, especially in the southeast of Nepal, but cases have been reported across much of the country. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available for Dengue, and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. Most of our trips to Nepal go to high altitudes where there is a risk of being affected by Acute Mountain Sickness. Our itineraries are designed to enable everyone to acclimatize to these altitudes, but you should be aware that it is still possible for you to be affected.
We use a range of excellent Tourist Standard hotels & can be tailored to your preference. While on a trek; lodges are simple, friendly, and atmospheric with heated dining areas. Bedrooms are, however, basic and unheated with wooden beds and foam mattresses. You will need a sleeping bag. The lodges have shared washing and toilet facilities. Some lodges have solar-powered showers (charged at $4 - $5 per shower) and battery-charging facilities (also charged at a rate per hour). Rooms are generally arranged on a twin-sharing basis and if you are travelling by yourself, you will usually be paired up with someone of the same sex.
Most lodges have almost identical menus throughout the trek. Breakfast will be a set menu usually consisting of porridge and toast, egg. Lunch & Dinner menus are mostly similar to dal bhat, momo’s, pizza, spaghetti, noodles, etc. 2 cups of tea/coffee are included in every meal. Any additional items that are not included in the set menu should be ordered and paid for separately. If you buy imported food and drink whilst on the trek you will spend more than the suggested amount. Although meat is available in the teahouses, we advise NOT eating it on the trek. The meat has often been carried in the heat from lower altitudes for several days before reaching the lodges and can causestomach upsets or illness.
Our multi-day adventure trek involves going to 5000m elevation. During the trip, you will be spending at least one night above 4000 meters and/or trekking to 5000 meters or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but we must follow some simple rules to acclimatize successfully.
Approximately $300 (or Euros, Pounds etc) changed into local currency, should be allowed for miscellaneous expenses including porter and trek crew tips, drinks, snacks etc. It is not necessary to obtain local currency before departure. US Dollars, Pound Sterling, and Euros are equally acceptable for exchange in Nepal. We recommend that you carry your travel money in the form of cash, or else it is possible to withdraw money from ATMs in Kathmandu using your debit or credit card.
A lightweight (Enduro style) full-suspension mountain bike with disc brakes is a perfect bike for this trip. The bike needs to be in excellent working condition before the start of the trip. Bike spare parts would be difficult to find in Nepal as there are only a handful of bike brands hence, it would be ideal to carry spare parts of your bike. A basic bike repair kit will be available.
ABOUT THE GUIDES: We love to ride Mountain bikes. Our guides are professional and with more than a decade of mountain biking experience, they know the ins and outs of Mustang. Some of our guides are also National-level racers who have competed across Asia. They are all trained and certified first-aid responders.
The technical ability required for the trip is 7/10 (of which 10 is the highest level). The trails are a mixture of Blue and Black lines. A good fitness level is a must for this trip as the trails will be challenging at times with carrying + push sections in between! Make sure you are ready for the adventure.
We strongly recommend you have a valid Travel + Medical insurance policy to cover the cost of medical
treatment, and emergency helicopter evacuation and to protect the value of your holiday in the event of
cancellation. When taking out insurance please ensure the policy you choose covers you for the activities and
altitude included in your itinerary.
Tipping is the accepted way of saying thank you for good service. Normally the porters and any other trek staff are given their tips at the end of the trek, which is best done as a group. As a guideline, we recommend that each group member contribute around $150 to these tips. At the end of their trek, many people also like to donate various items of equipment to the porters and trek staff. Boots, gloves, hats, scarves and even socks are always warmly received by the porters, whilst technical clothing and equipment such as head torches and trekking poles are highly prized by the Sherpa team. Your tour leader will make arrangements for a fair distribution (possibly by raffle) amongst the trek crew.
Your main item of luggage should be a sturdy kit bag, duffle bag or similar which will be carried during the trek by porters and should weigh no more than 15kg. You should also take on your holiday a daypack of approximately 40 liters capacity. For all STOL flights in Nepal, the normal allowance for holding baggage AND hand baggage combined is 15kg. Please be aware that you will have to pay any charges for excess personal baggage above this allowance atcheck-in, and that excess baggage may have to be flown separately. It is possible to leave items not required on the trek at the hotel in Kathmandu. For your international flights, please check the baggage allowance with your airline.
The best period for trekking in Nepal is categorized into the Autumn & Spring seasons when daytime temperatures at most altitudes are generally comfortable for walking, the sky is clear much of the time, and rain and snow are occasional occurrences.
Autumn: Mid-September to November. This is the main trekking season in Nepal. Day temperatures are approximately above 15 to 20ºC. Skies are usually clear and days on trek are sunny and mild with clear mountain views. At the highest altitudes although the days can be nice and sunny the temperatures can drop to 5ºC and much lower as minus 10ºC.
Spring: March to May. Both day and night temperatures will be warmer in general but haze will often build up in the afternoons with rain showers. Day temperatures are around 15 to 20ºC & at night time around 5ºC, but sometimes, the temperature can drop as low as minus 10ºC. Flowers bloom in this season and this is one of the reasons people choose to trek in spring.
Please remember that in any mountain area, the weather is never wholly predictable; snows can be expected on any departure usally at higher altitudes. You should be prepared and equipped to deal with any differences in weather beyond the conditions described above.
